Last year more than 100,000 people spoke out to protect Pirin National Park. But now, less than 12 months later - this amazing place - home to wolves and bears - is in greater danger than ever!
In 2017 over 100,000 people messaged Bulgarian Prime Minister urging him not to allow construction and logging to take place in Pirin National Park, which is also World Heritage and a EU Natura 2000 site.
Unfortunately, this all changed between Christmas and New Year.
While people spend time with their family and friends, the Bulgarian government changed the current plan for the park, opening up 48% of the territory of the park to construction.
This would involve logging of centuries old forests that shelter bear, wolf and chamois.
And then something great happened - thousands of Bulgarians took to the streets to save Pirin. The first street protest took place on the evening of 28 December, immediately after the government decision. There was a second protest the next night. And then last week there were protests in about a dozen Bulgarian cities simultaneously.
The next national street protest is planned for later today, Thursday, 11 January. Bulgarians will ask their government to revert its decision on Pirin now and save our World Heritage.
Support the people and send a message to the Bulgarian Prime Minister today
