The Games for Change Festival is a platform for all voices and backgrounds, providing the community an opportunity to celebrate and reinforce G4C's core values: cross-sector collaboration, innovative and progressive thinking, and diverse perspectives. As such, our team of curators has focused on showcasing the work and achievements of underrepresented communities.
This year we are excited to present a collection of speakers that may be new to the G4C stage but are already making big waves worldwide.
Highlighted speakers and sessions include:
Allan Cudicio (Twin Drums)
Developing the world's first African-inspired fantasy MMORPG means building a whole new genre almost from scratch. Bringing Blackness, both African and Diasporic, into the genre — in addition to a pre-and post-colonial queer perspective — means dealing with many past and contemporary political topics.
Sarah Makdad (Focus Home Interactive), Son M. (Perfect Garbage), Nuha Alkadi (Ubisoft Toronto), Rami Ismail, Malek Teffaha (Ubisoft)
A discussion on the experience of being Arab/Amazigh/Mena Indigenous in the video game industry, what it entails, and how we can improve representation and inclusion
Explore how Snowbright has put games, gender, and STEM education research to work in developing our latest game. It is the first-ever learning game to feature a canonically nonbinary character. Time Tails was developed in partnership with G4C and with support from the US Department of Education.
Michaela Ternasky-Holland (Creative Strategist & Consultant, CRUX / Freelance), David Liu (Head of Studios, BetterUp), Estella Tse (XR Creative Director), Gregg Katano, Kathryn Yu (Executive Editor, No Proscenium)
To combat the ideology that the Asian American community is a monolith, we celebrate how unique points of view and experiences influence how each person approaches XR, whether they specialize in volumetric video, animation, or biotechnology.
Nyambura M. Waruingi (Akoia & Company Ltd)
This session provides an overview of the development and production of the location-based XR experience, NOMA!, highlighting how to engage with artistic communities to harness XR tools in their praxis, build digital literacy for audiences, and create sustainable methods of distribution across accessible platforms within the East African region.
