The winner of the 1949 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is coming back to New York City in rare form - on September 16th and continuing through the 19th the Film Forum will show Vittorio DeSica’s 1948 Italian neo-realist masterpiece Bicycle Thieves in a fully restored and remastered digital presentation as part of its special month-long DeSica Italian film series taking place September 9th through October 8th. The late Roger Ebert, one of the film industry’s most authoritative and respected stewards, said of Bicycle Thieves "It is still alive and has strength and freshness." Prominent New York Times critic Pauline Kael called it “One of the greatest films of all time.” Daily screenings of the film will run 9/16 to 9/19. |
