 People worldwide call for greater action for snow leopards

This week world leaders will begin critical talks over the future of the snow leopard and its habitat – the headwaters for rivers that hundreds of millions of people depend on as a source of freshwater. The International Snow Leopard Summit and Ecosystem Forum, taking place between 23 and 25 August in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan will see all twelve snow leopard range countries meet for a second time to strengthen previous commitments to save this beautiful species.
It has been four years since the range countries first met in 2013, when they committed to an ambitious goal of securing 20 snow leopard landscapes by 2020. This has brought the plight of this iconic, endangered species into the spotlight and created hope that this commitment​s coming​ from the range country governments ​in Bishkek this week ​could set an example ​for conservation success​es​ worldwide.

 Great news for Belize's reefs 

Last week the Belize government ​committed to introduce critical legislation to establish a permanent ba​n on offshore oil activity in and around the Belize Barrier Reef. This is a landmark step forward for the World Heritage site and marine conservation globally.
