THANKS FOR JOINING THE XR4C COMMUNITY Many thanks to those who attended the first XR for Change Talk and Play at SAP Next-Gen's Innovation space at Hudson Yards. The event was an astounding success and this would not have been possible without your participation! Check out the online conversation on Twitter using the #XR4C hashtag. G4C would also like to thank our inspiring speakers Zohar Kfir (media artist), Gabo Arora (LightShed), Navid Khonsari (iNK Stories) and Jamie Pallot (Emblematic Group) for a panel filled with insights and honest debate, led by Erik Martin (Unity). It was a lively discussion about the challenges and opportunities around creating social impact with immersive media technology. The panel discussed how VR/MR/AR experiences were the ideal platform to raise awareness and tackle social and civic issues. All of the panelists agreed that XR allows a shift in power dynamics of media tech and helps viewers establish empathetic connections with stories from a different time and place. More specifically, Khonsari viewed his XR projects as stories that lived beyond the individual and served a wider social purpose. Arora provided insights on how to make a compelling XR story and mentioned that the key ingredient was to be bold with media technology to get your message across. Learn about the XR projects that were demoed: -
iNK Stories' game Blindfold puts the player in the shoes of a journalist under interrogation in Iran's most notorious prison. -
Emblematic Group showcased Greenland Melting and After Solitary. The latter tells the story of a former inmate's experience in solitary confinement. The project uses photogrammetry and volumetric video capture to create an incredibly realistic stage for the story to be set. -
LightShed's experience The Last Goodbye provides an emotional experience that immerses you in the story of Pinchas Gutter, a Holocaust survivor of the Majdanek concentration camp. -
Zohar Kfir's Testimony is an interactive documentary for virtual reality that shares the stories of five survivors of sexual assault and their journey to healing. Beyond just a piece, Testimony is an advocacy platform to allow the public to bear witness to those who have been silenced. |
