| What a way to kick off the 2022 Games for Change Festival! The energy was electric throughout Day 1, which included 20+ sessions across 4 unique programming tracks: Health & Wellness, Games for Learning, Civics & Social Issues, and XR for Change. The day also gave participants the opportunity to take part in our XR Immersive Arcade and G4C Award Nominee Arcade to celebrate the year's best social impact games and immersive experiences. Here are some highlights of Day 1! | | | Take This joins Raising Good Gamers! Eve Crevoshay, Executive Director at Take This, and 2022 Vanguard Award Winner, joins the Raising Good Gamers Leadership team, an initiative between Games for Change and Connected Leaning Lab created to catalyze positive change in the culture and climate of online gaming for youth. XR4C Continues to Grow! In 2017, G4C announced the XR for Change (#XR4C) initiative to develop a community of practice to use immersive media to address real-world challenges, create empathy, and drive social change. To support On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World), a three-part virtual reality documentary series on the threat of and fundamental injustice surrounding nuclear weapons, G4C will partner with Meta for an impact campaign and research/ -
G4C will partner with Anagram/Floreal on the award-winning VR experience Goliath on an impact campaign and as Executive producers of the following three episodes in the series. The campaign will tap into a vast body of knowledge and best practices developed by G4C and its community on issues related to mental health, accessibility and inclusion, and social behaviors in online gaming communities. -
G4C will also partner with The Choice, a series of intimate, interactive VR experiences where women share their complex emotional journeys towards choosing abortion. But in their three years of existence, they have faced funding inequities, the trials of game development, and a global pandemic. A Climate Action Game Show (5:00-6:45 pm) Beat! That! Heat! is an interactive game show where players compete and collaborate as they contribute to climate solutions. Part Jeopardy, part 90s Nickelodeon Double Dare & part mayhem, all in service of cooling down the planet and enjoying ourselves in the process. Crooked Poker (5-5:45 pm and 6-6:45 pm) Crooked Poker is a cunning card game of wits and deceit. Take on your opponents at the poker table to win the pot. But watch out; everyone in this game is a two-faced fraud who will stop at nothing for the prize. Place-Based Games Networking and Showcase (5-6:45 pm) Come see how games connect us more deeply to place, local history, and our neighbors - including outside.
