Calling all mobile game developers! G4C is excited to announce a new game design challenge! Diverse Voices, New Stories, aims to drive increased visibility for mobile games created by underrepresented game developers and help players discover games that include more diverse characters, voices, and stories.

Creators are invited to submit completed or nearly completed Android mobile games that have not yet been published on Android app stores. Games will be reviewed by panels of expert judges, and one team will receive:

  • $10,000 cash prize
  • $10,000 in advertising funds
  • Opportunity to work with mobile marketing experts to help define the launch and marketing strategy for the game.

The Challenge is open to game developers worldwide with a focus on creators whose voices have been excluded in the global gaming industry. Please read the Challenge Rules and Guidelines for more information.

Level up with G4C Learn this Fall! 🍂

Posted On // Leave a Comment
G4C Learn programs and resources encompass impactful and effective tools that merge learning and education with games, game design and play. From the Student Challenge to Game Exchange to career readiness workshops, we are thrilled to share info and updates on a few G4C Learn programs starting this fall.

The G4C Student Challenge is back for the 2022-2023 school year! Are you interested in participating? We are currently accepting applications from educators nationwide until September 23rd. Educators must teach 5th - 12th grade in the U.S. and MUST be teaching in a public school. No experience is required, and all subject areas are welcome.

The 2021-2022 Student Challenge was the biggest ever! The program featured 259 educators from across the country, 12 game jams with over 300 students participating, and 885 original digital games submitted by 1676 students from 22 states

In June, we honored our 2022 finalists and winners who made games based on three social impact themes:  Shaping the World for Difference (in partnership with Understood), Sustainable Cities (in partnership with NRDC), and Voice of a New Generation (in partnership with The New Georgia Project). Explore all of this year's finalists in the Student Challenge Arcade.

Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks, including this year's themes, game jam dates, and more!

Get involved with the Student Challenge!
This year, G4C launched Game Exchange, a program that connects students from the United States, the UAE, Bahrain, and Israel through their love of gaming and passion for game design and development. Game Exchange was recently featured in The Washington Post in an article that highlighted the program's impact and importance of students connecting through gaming! Here's a snapshot of program milestones from the first year:
To kick off the second year, we are looking for more teachers to participate in the Game Exchange program! The ideal educator will be passionate about international collaboration and working with multi-lingual students. Since the program focuses on game design, educators must be comfortable with block-based coding programs (i.e., Scratch).

Games for Change is partnering with Unity on a series of workshops to empower educators to build the next generation of lifelong creators in real-time 3D development. Middle and high school educators will come to learn best practices for teaching and implementing Unity in their classrooms and receive hands-on training from experts. Sign up below to be the first to receive information on dates and priority registration!

This fall, G4C will host a collection of programs across the country in partnership with Best Buy! Over the course of several weeks, youth will learn how to design their own games to enact social change and explore careers in the gaming industry. If you are in Boston, MA, Brooklyn, NY, Minneapolis, MN, or Bellevue, WA, keep an eye out for this program at your local Best Buy Teen Tech Center.
