That’s a wrap for #G4C2022! 🥳

Over the last four days, we had over 250 speakers, 60 hours of content, and an amazing group of attendees from around the world!

#G4C2022 will always be incredibly special, as this was our first in-person festival in three years and our first-ever hybrid event! The interaction and discourses over the last four days were incredibly thoughtful and offered a very promising, fantastic vision of the future of games and immersive media.

THANK YOU to the G4C community, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees for making #G4C2022 a wonderful hybrid experience and for continuing to foster impactful innovation, inclusion, and accessibility for all.

Day 3 #G4C2022 Recap!

WHEW! Day 3 of #G4C2022 was terrific! Thus far, attendees have experienced over 60 sessions across multidisciplinary programming tracks, plus opportunities to celebrate awards, network, and be the first to hear the latest announcements about social impact.

Today, the Festival's energetic momentum continued virtually, featuring several excellent voices in the space, including Jessica Creane, Melanie Harke, Shawn Patton, Naomi Clark, and more!
The annual G4C Awards celebrate the year's best social impact and learning games. All awards are competitive, and expert jurors review submissions through a rigorous evaluation process. And today, we unveiled our 2022 G4C Award Winners!
 
Most Innovative - The Vale: Shadow of the Crown (Falling Squirrel)

In addition to the above, the ceremony recognized Eve Crevoshay as the 2022 Vanguard Award recipient, Schell Games for the Industry Leadership Award, Child's Play for the G4C Giving Award, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Insomniac Games as the inaugural Accessibility Award winner.

DIVERSITY IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS (10:00 - 10:20)

Explore how diversity and inclusion within an organization are good for a company's bottom line. Joanie will take a deeper dive into how diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts can affect profitability for organizations worldwide.

FAKE OR BREAK: THE CURRENT LANDSCAPE OF FAKE NEWS GAMES (11:00 - 11:50)
Andy Phelps (Professor, American University / University of Canterbury), Drew Moger (Graduate Assistant, American University), Jocelyn Wagner (Narrative Designer, Ascend Learning), Lindsay Grace (Knight Chair in Interactive Media, MFA Degree, Director Vice President, University of Miami, HEVGA), Roger Altizer (Associate Professor, Director Center for Digital Health, University of Utah), Songyi Liang (PhD Student, University of Miami)

This roundtable presents research from a wide variety of research that has examined games centered on disinformation or 'fake news'. The panelists will explore perspectives related to health, politics, culture, class, and more, while also examining the design of these games, and why so many of them follow similar design patterns, ending with a call to action for new explorations of this area using new and different designs and styles of play to reach new audiences.

DESIGNING GAMES FOR ESSENTIAL CIVICS SKILLS: THE POWER OF CO-CREATION (2:30 - 2:50) Susan Rivers (Executive Director & Chief Scientist, iThrive Games Foundation)
Games can be designed to use the connective and reflection-prompting power of play so that players develop and strengthen their social and emotional skills, and this is especially powerful when teens are involved throughout the design process. This talk shares the Game Design Studio approach where, through design and in gameplay, teens practice regulating emotions, exercising curiosity, understanding systems thinking, and engaging in social change actions to benefit their community.

As the Games for Change community grows internationally, hear from our G4C Chapter leads on the plans for 2022 and 2023. Representatives from G4C Africa, G4C Latin America, G4C Asia-Pacific, And G4C Europe will join President Susanna Pollack for a discussion on the opportunities and challenges in each region.
