What an amazing second day of #G4C2020! We had some stellar sessions with the likes of Gordon Bellamy, Ryan Green, Maria Burns Ortiz, and Courtney Cogburn. If you missed any sessions they will be available on our YouTube Channel soon.
Today we had some exciting announcements, including the culmination of our AARP Alcove Challenge! Congratulations to the Grand Prize winner of the VR for Change Alcove Challenge, Peter Pichya with their experience Labyrinth Lunacy VR. Ryan Green and Mike Perroto of Numinous Games announced a new game and program called The Playability Initiative. The Playability Initiative seeks to collaborate with the accessible gaming community to connect players to video games designed and adapted with their unique abilities in mind while challenging more designers to think inclusively. Through partnerships with G4C and AbleGamers they hope to bring adaptive and accessible technology in service to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy community and beyond! The Playability Initiative will bring a new element to next years' G4C's Student Challenge-- an accessibility modifier! Stay tuned for more information on this.
Today we had an announcement from the Nuclear Threat Initiative about a brand new game! U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest J. Moniz, Carmen MacDougall, and Jess Trybus unveiled Hair Trigger, a new mobile game developed with Simcoach Games. The game is launching on the 75th anniversary of the first atomic test, and will be used to educate young people about the current real-world threats of nuclear war. Just before the Festival this year, G4C hosted the first Create With Fortnite Workshop in partnership with Epic Games to help educators bring Fortnite Create to the classroom. Today we are excited to announce that this partnership will be extended to 4 more virtual workshops, starting with one on August 29th.Learn more and apply here! Epic Games also presented more exciting initiatives around Fortnite Creative, such as a Creators Field Guide, Mega Grants, a new Lesson plans page, and a Teaching with Fortnite Course.
Tomorrow is the final day to connect with other #G4C2020 participants! We will have a dedicated Speed Networking meeting from 11am - 12pm. Simply click the NETWORKING area from the main menu to be paired with another Festival participant for 5 minute video chats.

The next decade will see an even more dramatic shift to a new version of the Internet and social media that links us to a globally shared virtual space, the Metaverse. 17-year old entrepreneur and VR developer Winston Matthews will provide an early look at his soon to be launched multi-player VR game.
Explore Indigenous History in When Rivers Were Trails Nichlas Emmons 12:20 PM to 12:40 PM This presentation explains how the educational video game, When Rivers Were Trails, fills in the missing elements of American history by introducing an Indigenous perspective to the narrative. Traveling across the northern United States, the players meet with many others on your journey, hunt for food, forage for berries, canoe beaver and rock infested waters, and fish. If you do not care for your wellbeing, then you may join your ancestors sooner than you think!
Accessibility in Gaming Megan Lawrence 3:20 PM to 3:40 PM Mental health is top of mind for so many of us. Gaming is often used for self-care and as a way to connect with the community during COVID and beyond. Mindful Knight is a Minecraft world that teaches social and emotional learning for students, and Xbox titles are increasingly including characters with mental health conditions. Join our session to talk about the intersectionality of gaming and mental health conditions.
Holograms in the Age of Social Distancing Asad Malik and Hana Pestle 5:00 PM to 5:20 PM Join Asad Malik and Hana Pestle in a discussion on the process of Jadu building a hologram of Hana and releasing it during quarantine. Together, they will explore how volumetric capture will be handled post COVID-19.
A New Era of Experimental Medicine Asi Burak and Dr. Adam Gazzaley 6:50 PM to 7:10 PM A critical and global challenge that we face is the development of effective and safe approaches to enhance brain function and cognition in both healthy and impaired individuals.
